This is what’s left of the Catholic Church in the village of Giang Son. According to our guide, the church was blown up in a friendly fire incident, when U.S (or ARVN) rockets misfired, killing the people that were inside.
The local farmers grow corn all the way to the walls of the church, but they have left the rest of the grounds to the elements. It is always an eerie feeling to walk around in church ruins, but knowing that its violent past took place fairly recently made it outright strange.
