Local Cuppa Joe

That Vietnam is one of the world’s largest coffee producers was news to me. It quickly became evident that they also keep the best of the beans to themselves. It is brewed strong and served with condensed milk – a concoction that is very sweet, highly aromatic and has undertones of chocolate and brandy.

The contraption they use to brew it was also a bit of a novelty. The coffee powder goes in the top chamber, together with a splash of boiling water. The water then seeps through a fine mesh and ends up in the cup, which sits immersed in a bowl of hot water.

While it does look a bit impractical, it does make for a good cup of coffee. And everyone knows that a good cup of coffee = one happy Swede.
