My mother-in-law, Birgitta, is a multi-talented artist. One of her many artistic endeavors is weaving carpets. The style of carpet can be seen in any IKEA carpet section; its closest English translation is Rag Carpet.
The material that makes up the carpet can come from anywhere – old clothing, curtains, bed linens or any old piece of fabric. The material is ripped into strips and woven into a carpet using the big loom pictured above, which I’ve been told has been in the family at least 80 years.
She’s taught me to use this beast & I’m going to attempt to weave the most beautiful carpet ever made. Go big or go home!
