    Our Bothnian Bay Boating Adventure

The weather didn’t permit us to go very far in the boat today. The sun was out, but the southerly winds (don’t I sound like I know what I’m talking about!) were whipping up the sea and made going a bit rough.

We stopped at a smallish beach (their words, not mine – I thought it was great – we saw far smaller and crappier beaches in southeast asia) to have, as Martin described, “A snack with coffee, followed by a short adventure which will be followed immediately by dinner and then more coffee.” Sweet.

It’s been about 20-25 years since northern Sweden has come out of the Ice Age.  Ok, fine, maybe it was more like 8,000 years but that’s at least 4,000 years after the rest of Europe thawed. Because of all the prolonged glacial activity, the scenery, geologically speaking, is incredible. The adventure Martin spoke of was a walk along an ancient glacial river which ran through the island we stopped on.  At one point I felt like I was Super Mario on an adventure in the Big Land level. The boulders we leapt around on looked like they were giant pebbles, they were so well worn.

Din-din was grilled chicken over an open fire, the company was great and all in all it was a fabulous day. Thanks again Urban, Carina, Maja and Rasmus!

You know the term, “fly by the seat of your pants?” Well, that's been our philosophy for most of our adult lives – before and after meeting, falling in love and marrying. We're now taking that idea on a 14 month round-the-world trip. Follow us as we share the good, the bad and the downright nasty of life on the road.
