The Duck Race

We are seriously double booked this weekend, as it is the time of both the Engstrom family reunion and the biannual Sangis Days.

While the family reunion of course takes precedence, last night we managed to hit one of the Sangis Day highlights: the Duck Race.

It is basically a lottery where you buy one out of 1,000 plastic ducks. The ducks are then released into the Sangis River. Presumably, the first duck to make it through the rapids at the old bridge wins the race. One year, the wind blew the ducks backwards up river, so the winner had to be drawn out of a hat. This year, they all got stuck in a sidearm of the river, so a couple of guys in a boat had to go splash water at them to get them unstuck.

This is a picture of the winning duck. We have yet to hear an announcement of which number it has, but we are fairly certain that it is one of our five.

Apart from the Duck Race, the Sangis Days are a pleasant get-together for the villagers and for returning ex-Sangisers. Last night the weather was nice and everyone were milling around having a good time.

I really like my village in summer.
