Sangis baking house

Sangis has a communal baking house which I’ve seen in pictures throughout the history of the Engstrom family, but have never had the privilege of using myself. Well, I’m happy to say that Friday was my Sangis baking house cherry popping day!

The oven is wood fired – it’s the real deal, people! We had to wear long-sleeve shirts and head scarfs to protect us from the heat. We made two different types of bread, one was a soft thin bread and the other was a hard, cracker-like bread. It gave me an incredible sense of accomplishment to sit down to eat warm bread that we had mixed, hand rolled and cooked in a wood-fired oven.

My dream home will definitely now include a wood-fired oven. Or, maybe a pizza oven. Well, ok, maybe just a really nifty toaster oven. Yes, we will have a very cool toaster oven!

Try to not be too jealous.
