I’ve read Eat, Pray, Love. I’m pretty sure you have as well. It spread like wild fire last year and was all I saw when riding on public transportation for a while. It was with this book in mind (well, not completely – but a little bit) that I dragged Martin to Ubud in Bali. He’d been there before and didn’t seem all that impressed. I thought he was being rash, figured I needed to see it for myself. So off we went.
Now, keep in mind we’ve just come from the jungles of Sumatra when I say that I was VERY disappointed in Ubud. It was much, much more up-market than I expected; not the quaint hill-side village of my imagination. The streets were lined with expensive stores (Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren to name two) and it was jam-packed with tourists. It seems the Seat of Our Pants crew has hit up Bali in it’s peak tourist month. I guess it’s safe to say that we’re not the first to have the idea of going to Bali in mid-August.
We’re heading over to Lombok – thankfully leaving the Ralph Laurens in our dust.
