No Longer at Sea Level

Leh sits at an elevation of 3505 meters (11500ft). We flew in from Kuala Lumpur, which sits at an elevation of, I don’t know, five feet or so? Needless to say, we didn’t feel too great on our first day here. Dizziness, a pounding heartbeat and a general feeling of being weak and dumb struck us. Part of the problem was that we slept the previous night in a chair at the Delhi airport. To get rid of our altitude sickness, we decided to play it by the book for a while.

Today, after plenty of water, sleep, taking it easy and eating good food, we are feeling great again. Just now, Jaime said that she feels like she could climb a mountain any time now. I don’t know about that, but we’ve definitely improved a lot.

Getting completely acclimatized will take another few days, but the initial feeling of yuk is over.
