Our route for our last two days retraced our steps through Chhomrong, then branched into new territory along the Modi Khola river. As Martin mentioned in Day 10′s post, by the time day 11 and 12 rolled around we were looking forward to returning to some of Pokhara’s luxuries (hot showers in something other than a moldy basement, beer that doesn’t cost $5/bottle – you know, things like that), so on we marched.

Day 11 took us from Bamboo to Landruk, a seven hour walk equally divided between ascent and descent. After a nasty climb past Chhomrong, we descended to the Modi Khola river. Waiting for us was one heck of a river crossing, which I caught in the video below.
Once across, we were held up for half an hour due to local traffic, as the below video shows.
We spent the night in Landruk, a beautiful stone-house village nestled on a hillside. We woke on day 12 with smiles on our faces. Today we would be returning to Pokhara – and had been talking about our celebration dinner for the past five days. To get to this fabulous dinner, though, we had to walk – so walk we did, for six hours. We caught a taxi in Phedi and rode a very smelly (us) and fast (I’m sure the driver was none too pleased with us) 45 minutes back to Pokhara.
Once back in civilization, we scrubbed ourselves pink, had a barber deal with Martin’s face and were finally able to enjoy a (very) well deserved feast.
All in all, this trek was one of the best things we’ve done on this trip, and if you’ve been following this site, you know that that is saying a lot. It just doesn’t get any better than Nepal for a trekker. Period.

I just stumbled across your site and have been enjoying reading your posts on trekking through Nepal. I’d love to do this on our upcoming RTW, but I haven’t done any trekking before, just some casual hiking. How did you two get started with trekking? Did you do anything special to prepare for it? Keep up the awesome blogging–cheers!
Hi Alison!
To tell you the truth, I hadn’t done much trekking before this trip. Martin had & has really been the driving force for it.
It depends on what sort of trekking you do – more often than not, you don’t need to be anything more than a casual hiker to give it a try. I would suggest good hiking boots, though. Those are a must for trekking. Otherwise, just put one foot in front of the other & off you go.
I’d be happy to answer any other questions about trekking (particularly in Nepal) Send us over an email if you think of anything else.
Cheers,
-Jaime
