Entering the Winter Wonderland

We’re back at my parents place in Northern Sweden – a nice little town just south of the arctic circle. In some ways, this is an extreme place. Last time we visited, it was midsummer – the time of the year when the sun hardly ever sets. The counterpoint to that time is midwinter – a time when the sun never rises.

This time we’re here in the potentially best time: the spring winter. Spring up here is painfully short, but incredibly gorgeous. Right now everything is covered in snow, but it will be just five or six weeks until the first flowers will begin to blossom. It is a dramatic time, one that I’ve missed out on for years in a row. For my wife, it is a first time.

We’ll document this drastic season here on seatofourpants.com. Stay tuned!
