    Kaziranga National Park Photos

    Kaziranga National Park Photos

Martin shared about our tour of the Kaziranga National Park in Assam here, but I think it deserved a few more photos, so I’ve put together this gallery.

This park should be on everyone’s Travel To-do List. It was an experience of a lifetime. Big animals. Untouched jungle. Nearly no foreign tourists. Baby elephants.

    A perfect combination.

The Big Fingernail Incident of 2010

The Big Fingernail Incident of 2010

I’m a girl and girls sometimes cry. We can’t help it. Well, I can’t help it at least, especially when I’m tired. One wrong word or move and I become a fountain. Combine exhaustion, near constant bus rides and a new hotel every night. The result: a recipe for Jaime Disaster. This week’s trigger was, [...]

Personal Space – A Relative Term, Really

Personal Space – A Relative Term, Really

Personal space means one thing to us and something all together different to Indians. When I board a bus at home (San Francisco), I hope that the empty seat next to me stays empty. It’s not because I’m antisocial (no, no – of course not). It’s because I like my space, especially on public transportation. [...]

    The Muum

    The Muum

If I were to be completely honest, I’d have to say that wearing anything other than a Muumuu is impractical. The Muumuu, or Muum as I like to call it, is the world’s greatest outfit.

You name me one other piece of clothing that you can wear while sleeping, running errands, cooking, throwing a dinner party [...]

Either You Get It, Or You Don’t

Once upon a time I made a video reenactment of my experience in a Dharamsala yoga class. I put it on Youtube so I could share it on our blog. It’s since been watched over 150 times, with varying reactions. I will make no excuses for the video, but I will leave you with the [...]

    We’re Locked In Now

    We’re Locked In Now

Well folks, this traveling by the Seat of Our Pants has been great, but there comes a time when some planning needs to take place. We have some big flights in our future and needed to get them booked while we could still afford them.

So the credit card is rip-roaring hot from all the cyber-swipes, [...]

    Road Laundry

    Road Laundry

When your backpack has space enough for exactly three outfits, you learn to mix and match with abandon. Martin’s pair of coral-colored pants (a laundry accident in KL months ago) and a blue striped shirt work perfectly together. Of course they work!

When you have only one black shirt, which everyone knows goes with everything, [...]

    Eating an Indian Thali

    Eating an Indian Thali

The thali is a dish we’ve been looking forward to since we last left India. Actually, calling it just one dish is a misnomer – it’s really a bunch of little dishes served together with rice and/or naan (Indian flat bread). Thalis vary by region – one of the best meals we’ve had in India [...]

    Drink at Your Own Risk

    Drink at Your Own Risk

This is why travelers should not drink the local’s “drinking water” in India.

We ran across this truck after walking along the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati. The water you see being dumped into the tank is pumped directly from – you guessed it – the river. The same river that I was happy to walk along, [...]

Is That What I Think It Is?

Is That What I Think It Is?

We’ve found that taking a stroll in India means that sometimes you come across a dead dog. It happens, you feel a little gross about it, then you move on. It’s just one of those things that you deal with.

Today’s stroll along the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati brought an all together different dead-thing experience. The [...]

Color Color Everywhere – Holi Festival 2010

    Color, color everywhere.

The Holi Festival took place today and, as promised, it was a rambunctious display of drumming, dancing and color powder smearing. We’re taking the train north today from Kolkata, so we’re missing most of it, but what we did see (and be apart of) was a whole bunch of fun.

    What we didn’t expect [...]
