Unfortunately, his paws are not fit to type on a keyboard, so I’ve volunteered to help the little oinker out.

First of all, Bacon thinks we’re doing a lousy job at blogging these days. I concur. We’ve been busy. Busy celebrating our re-entry to the US, busy overcoming the hangovers from celebrating our re-entry into the US, dealing with immigration paperwork, smogging the car, watching True Blood on HBO, picking up work, doing laundry, joining a gym, chewing gum, making DMV appointments and so on. You know – all that stuff people have to do after a thirteen month trip around the world.

At this point, Bacon says “I want posts, not excuses!”. He also snarls like only a 5 ounce cloth pig with no mouth can snarl. I guess we have to bow to his wishes. To tell the truth, we’ve missed our blogging habits a lot – not only the practice of daily writing, but also the interaction with you guys, our readers.

Expect the blog posts to resume at regular intervals from now on. We have lots of stuff to tell you about, and we have a lot of fun adventures to look forward to in the near future.

Using his savings (and our credit cards), he has been one mean, lean travel booking machine.

The way Bacon has figured it out so far is that we head to Stockholm by the end of the month. We’ll spend a weekend plus a few days there, reconnecting with old friends and checking out what spring has to offer around those parts. After that, Bacon feels that we need to visit the British islands: six days in the UK will be the next stop on our itinerary.

After that, we fly to Diyarbakir in Turkish Kurdistan. This is where Bacon’s plans get a bit fuzzy: he knows that he wants to show us Göbleki Tepe: a hilltop sanctuary that is possibly the world’s oldest holy place. Then it is all up in the air. Perhaps our readers have an idea on what to do in that part of the world? If so, let us know.

If the door happened to open past our bedtime, I should ignore it. Martin’s a heavy sleeper so Bacon knew he had nothing to worry about on that front. I told him the payoff wasn’t necessary. He’s welcome to do what he wants.

It seems he did just that. We woke this morning to find our friend reeking of cheap liquor and complaining that his ears hurt. Finding them pierced was as much of a surprise to us as it was to him. Someone had a little blackout  last night (and it wasn’t the two who went to the Myanmar embassy super early this morning, that’s for sure).

Will he never learn?

We were here nine months and a much fatter bank account ago. Having not gained our budget travel wits yet, we stayed at a nice hotel and ate at semi-luxurious restaurants.

 

This time around we’re staying in the backpacking mecca, Khao San Road, in a room with no private bathroom. Bacon will not have the luxury of privacy should his antics lead where they did last time.

 

Despite this fact, he insists that we let him loose here once again. He’s pushing to visit a piercing shop down the road and mentioned in passing that getting a tattoo might be fun. Everyone has a soft spot and it seems Bacon likes himself some Bangkok.

The key to maintaining a semblance of the person you were before traveling (as opposed to a loser hippie traveler, for example) is to keep yourself busy in creative ways.

 

Martin and I do this a few different ways. One way is figuring out new and interesting ways to entertain/annoy one another. My attempt a few days ago resulted in this fine head wear, which I wore the entire evening, though Martin begged me to remove it. Knowing that no one would see me (except, I guess, everyone that opens this site), I figured that it annoyed Martin just enough to keep on my head for a while.

Well, it seems that a certain someone missed the joke. We found Bacon had turbanated himself when we weren’t looking. Or has he mastered the art of the entertain/annoy pastime? He’s remaining tight lipped about it. Either way, I’ve gotta say that Bacon is working that turban!

 

In other, unrelated news, it’s time for us to get a new pastime.

With tax time creeping up, it was time to face some realities (boring) and figure out how I was going to deal with taxes.

I’ll spare you the details, but it involved paperwork and signatures – one from me and two from witnesses. One witness was obvious (thanks Hussie), but the second one was more tricky. You see, we don’t know anyone here. Well, that’s not true. We know our landlord, but he was out of town. So we were stuck.

Insert Bacon! He agreed to help, but only on one condition. He’s concerned about his online presence. He wants a better image of himself put out there. So we promised to feature some of his philanthropic activities (just as soon as he starts doing them). Thanks again Bacon.

For the most part he stayed in my backpack. His plan was simple. He didn’t want to see anything until we made it to the top, figuring that would be the best way to experience the Annapurna Base Camp.

 

Sadly, there was one snag in his plan: we forgot to take him out of my backpack.

 

So, in an effort to keep him from having a total meltdown, we staged this little photo shoot, figuring it would suffice. I think it’s pretty clear from his expression just how awesome he thinks the ABC is.
